We’ve written to the QLD Minister for Primary Industries (the Hon. Tony Perrett MP) calling on the QLD government to stop the tunnel net trials. You can read our letter here.

Follow these simple steps to join the call to stop the tunnel net trials by emailing Minister Perrett now. It can take less than 2 minutes. Every voice counts, so make your voice heard.

STEP 1:  Copy the following text into an email Subject Line: Stop The Tunnel Net Trials

Dear Minister Perrett,

FishLIGHT program: Call to stop the tunnel net commercial fishing gear trials

I am aware of the letter dated 9 February 2026 that was sent to you by the Inshore Flats Project and others calling on your government to stop the trial of tunnel net fishing gear in Central & North Queensland.

I fully support the call to stop all tunnel net trials now. Tunnel net fishing should not be introduced to Central & North Queensland, having regard to the economic, social and environmental costs and risks that are associated with it.

Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

STEP 2 (optional): If you want to, you can add in a personal comment about why protecting the inshore flats from tunnel nets matters to you. But you don’t have to.

STEP 3: Add Minister Perrett’s email address in the ‘to’ line: primaryindustries@ministerial.qld.gov.au

STEP 4: If you live in QLD, carbon copy the email to your local member of the state parliament. You can find their email addresses here.

STEP 5: Forward your email (or this blog post) to friends and contacts, and hound them to send their own email.

Together, we can stop these huge inshore nets from destroying QLD’s world class inshore fishery, before it is too late.
