The Inshore Flats Project (IFP) has formally objected to the ongoing tunnel net trials in Queensland waters. On 4BC radio, Paul Burt and Chris Burgess discuss why the IFP and other recreational fishing bodies have urged the Queensland Government to halt these trials immediately. The discussion highlights the environmental risks, community impact, lack of social licence and the need for sustainable fishing practices.

...the time is ripe, right now, to look carefully at the 2025 trial data, because when you do that, common sense should lead the Minister to stop the tunnel net trials now, so that further public funds are not wasted travelling down the wrong path, and so that we can support our commercial fisherman, of course, in more productive ways with the gillnet phase out”
